Data Collection

Session List
The Session List displays every session that the selected child has had with Playground Discovery.

You can print session data by pressing the “Print” button. You can create, edit, and save notes on a child’s performance on a session-by-session basis. Simply press the “Edit Notes” button and enter/edit notes. These notes will be permanently attached to this specific session. Sometimes performance data will need to be utilized along with other information not provided by Playground Discovery. To facilitate this, the program has an “Export” button which will, upon being pressed, export the data into a comma-delimited file.

The Session Detail section of the screen contains performance information for each session. You can view, export, and print this information, as well as make “session-specific” notes on the child’s performance. Because of the data-rich nature of Playground Discovery, each activity is presented on its own screen. The Session Report lists the session number, date, start time, and end time of each Playground Discovery activity. Selecting one of these sessions will display detailed session data in the Session Detail portion of the screen.

Comparative Data
Clicking on the chart symbol in the software will allow you to see a child’s progress across time on a specific task.

If the child has worked on an activity, the symbol will appear next to that activity listing. Clicking on this symbol will show seven types of activity data, shown across time. The presentation of this data is meant to show progress trends, across time, for a student on a particular activity.

The Time on Task tab will show the total time that the child was engaged in the activity. Button Presses will show the number of times each button was pressed. The Max. Press Duration shows, by color, the longest duration of a single button press during the activity. The Min. Press Duration shows, by color, the shortest duration of a single button press during the activity. As mentioned previously, the program is set up to provide guided prompts to the child. The Appropriate Responses tab shows after which prompts the child got the appropriate answer. The Max. Button Pressure shows, by color, the hardest press (in terms of percent) of a single button press during the activity. The Min. Button Pressure shows, by color, the softest press (in terms of percent) of a single button press during the activity. 1st Prompt: This refers to a verbal cue, either the original question or a restatement of the question after an inappropriate response. 2nd Prompt: This refers to the visual hints shown on the screen. 3rd Prompt: This refers to a modeling of the appropriate response.
